Unicorn Overlord – 8/10

As with all the stress in my personal life over the past few months, and the holidays yielding a less stressful burden on my time, I’ve found some time to revisit some of my games.

Unicorn Overlord is one of those games I’ve found unexpectedly jiving with me. I’m currently playing it on my Nintendo Switch and it’s quite nice to play on-and-off. It’s a tactical role-playing game which kind of combines real-time elements while on the map with turn-based mechanics during battles. I find the controls easy to use as well since you kind-of just setup your teams and have them battle automatically. There’s an option to have the battles auto-resolve but I find it’s better to view the battles since you can gain insight better to what or what doesn’t work (if you’re as lazy as me in reading the VEEERY voluminous material…or maybe just don’t have time to do so ๐Ÿ˜œ).

The story, I find the usual trope. Bad guy takes over kingdom, exiled prince returns to get it back…yadayada. I haven’t finished it yet since, as I’ve indirectly said before, I don’t really have time for a continuous playthrough. ๐Ÿ˜” Still, it’s fun to play in those brief moments. And the story is light enough that you don’t need to remember too many plotlines or characters and such.

All-in-all, I find this one of my recommended games for busy people. It doesn’t need to be played in one sitting and it’s quite easy to get into again after a long time of not playing it. Controls are easy to remember, or rather, there’s no need to remember any of the controls as much as in other games.
